Jeff Kouba Success Story

Jeff Kouba one of the toughest most self-sufficient men I have ever trained! I am so proud of you Jeff. Keep the hard work up, the good stuff is just starting!! In his own words:

“I started training with Josh in September of last year. I inquired about his services in about June. I was getting ready for a meet in July and doing well with 5/3/1, but knew damn well I needed someone as experienced as him to push me to where I wanted. Powerlifting is not a very popular thing around Montana. No one has a garage/underground gym, there are just a handful of people at the gym I go to that train with a purpose, and now only one meet a year in this state. Otherwise it's a 10+ drive to get to a meet.

At my meet in July, I pulled my right quad on the first attempt of squats. For 2 weeks, I had very little flexion in it from the tearing pain. By the time that first week with Josh came around, I was a little a little worried about the quad, but told Josh to open the flood gates. When I got my first week of training, only thing I could say was "I'm going to die." Die I did, but reborn I became. It was time to quit being a pussy, and man up. Every week, Josh listened to what I had to say, and went from there. It was always a step forward. He pushed me to the limits, but to never fail. If there is one thing in life I hate to do, it is failing. I train alone, work a rotational shift that includes overnight shifts, and now live 15 miles out of town in the country. Motivation some days is lacking, but I know that to succeed, one must dig deep and not give up, no matter what. Also, I look to my Dad. That man is what I strive to be each and every day. There is no quit in him. I'm also way more critical on myself then anyone could be of me. If I fail, I'm the one who has to sleep with me at night. Failing is both physical and mental pain. How I thrive is on pain. No matter how bad it gets, nothing will amount to the abuse of myself, or the horrors of my childhood. It releases that inner animal inside each of us. It's a very symbiotic relationship that makes me tick. Josh knew it too. He would push me as hard as he wanted, but he was also smart enough to know when to back off to not risk a permanent injury. It's a fine line, but he knows it well. Because this is it. All the pain, vomit, blood, and blacking out; none of it matters. All that matters is that few seconds as you grasp the cold steel. This weekend, I competed in the Chris Hight Memorial Bulldog Push/Pull meet. This is the first meet I ever competed in last year. I benched 355 with a re-injured shoulder for +20 lb meet PR. What I am most proud of is the +104 lb PR deadlift of 600. One more milestone closer to the ultimate goal.

Thank you Josh for believing in me, and continuing to push me as hard as possible. May we have many more cycles together my friend. “
