Craig Bongelli Success Story

When I first started training Canadian Strongman Craig Bongelli, I saw potential in him. He was a great athlete. Initially, he seemed to lack some of the aggression that top athletes in Iron Sports have to succeed. Over the past three months, I have never seen such a metamorphosis in an athlete. When he goes into the gym, he declares war on the pig iron. This war does not end with 1,2,3 or even 4 tours, it is a daily battle. He attacks the weights, not like he is trying to put them in the hospital, but literally the morgue. In 12 weeks’ time, he increased push press from 325 to 370. His raw squat went from 605 to 700 and his deadlift went from 605 to 660 with a legitimate shot at 700 (he barely missed). Here is a cool story about Craig: After hitting a huge PR at 660 in the squat, he missed 700. He left the gym and when he was in the parking lot, a voice inside him told him to go back inside. He loaded 700 on the bar and attacked it with relentless voracity and smoked the weight as you will see in the video below. I wouldn’t recommend this practice to everybody. I am very proud of Craig. He went from a mentally average athlete, now I worry his testicles drag on the ground he has so much courage. Keep up the good work, Craig. We will see you in World’s Strongest Man someday. I am excited to see this Strongman season. Your mental and physical preparation play like a fine orchestra.

Rob Ruxbaum Success Story

I want to congratulate one of my clients, Rob Ruxbaum. Rob hails from Washington and lifts for the prestigious Kennelly Power Team. Rob went to the USAPL Raw Nationals and lifted PR’s in all three lifts and total at 198. Six weeks later on October 22nd, Rob again lifted and set PR’s again in all three lifts @198 with a 490 squat (22 lb. PR), 286 Bench Press (11 lb. PR), and a 573 Deadlift (17 lb. PR.)

This is the e-mail I received from Rob “Very happy with the day. I got 3 WA state USAPL records (SQ, DL, Total) so that makes me very happy. As far as future plans, I want to get stronger. DUH. Next meet will be the last weekend in February so I have time for a nice long training cycle. Get my raw lifts up. REALLY want to be somewhere in the 520/315/600 range. I will continue to work on my diet and want to keep working with you and train like a beast. Again, thanks for the help up to the point and can’t wait to start training again!”

Rob has worked his butt off and I wanted to congratulate him publicly, his work ethic is unparalleled and I believe he will be an international super star before his hat is hung up! Rob has all the tools mentally and physically to catapult his way to the top. To improve his deadlift Rob did a lot of glute and upper back work. This not only helped his lockout, his former weak point, but by building up these areas, his technique improved greatly by default. Now Rob’s lock out is in an anatomically superior position plus he has more push to finish the son of a buck off – form this reason I know Rob will pull 600+ shortly. For the squat, pause squats jibed well with Rob, and for the bench press, bringing up Rob’s shoulders and bottom end strength were key. Thanks for your hard work, brother!
